A day in history To celebrate a nations birthday Is today one to mourn And honour it’s innocent children
In recent events, the unmarked graves of indigenous children have been discovered at former residential schools across Canada.
Celebrations this year are tempered by a nations grief and need for reflection. Today, in a most Canadian way, we acknowledge the atrocities inflicted on the innocent. We honour the young lives taken too soon and the survivors whose voices were silenced for too long.
Oh Canada - It’s time now to listen, to feel, to acknowledge and to heal. We are Canada. We are Kanata. We are a village. And today we gather as one people and one community
‼️THE GRAVES OF CHILDREN‼️
You are a leader
Whether you like it or not
For all children born
To you they look up
With the birth of confusion
And the lack of reason
In the arms of delusion
Our babies are breathing
Parents or not
All that you do
As an adult
A child sees you
Nurturing is needed
Not all receive fair passage
Cruelty wears disguise
Distorting the real message
This just gets me going
For children are most pure
Precious souls I pray
For earth to love you more
All the little feet
That never learned to run
I cry to think of cruelty
Sending innocents heaven
To all the little souls
Whose lives were cruelly stolen
It’s hard for me to grasp
Your murder as a reason
Painful memories
Buried in the past
Stolen from your life
The truth returns to blast
As you look down on us
And see us gathered here
From time so short we learn
That life is just not fair
I mourn the loss of you
I pray to your mass grave
In all your open spirits
May justice find you brave
I honour your short life
It is the hardest lesson
All leaders need to speak
For children are a blessing
If I could die for you
I’d do it right away
For you to breathe in air
Where you could see life fair
A child is the future
And when you kill a child
The future you destroy
What are you living for?
To people of the earth
The ones that here remain
It is your job to do
To now shout out for change
