How to respond
And still be nice
In serious matters
That make you annoyed
Some funny results
You try to avoid
Attempt you will
To keep a straight face
When applying decorum
And not to disgrace
The humour you’re given
When letting it slide
You’d rather laugh
Then break down and cry
To someone unknown
You apply apprehensive
Give them a stare
And try to reframe this
Behind a blank face
With eyes bulging wide
It really is hard
To stymie smile’s guide
To burst with a cry
And release the belly
You want to explode
And laugh so silly
To those you know well
You’re likely to show
What’s on your tongue
And trust that they know
You really need time
To account for the reasons
In matters of hearts
And what you believe in
When serious visits
Sometimes it helps
To see the humour
And push the pain out
Chastising aside
It might or it won’t
Attraction is strong
On a happy note
There’s medicine here
You can apply to the wound
For pain and it’s crew
Need a good mood
In a moment of truth
Loss is serious
Humour beats pain
Amuse the facetious
To laugh with yourself
And joke at the greed
The smile on your lips
Is all that you need
For the serious matters
You know you’ll address
Humour’s gift is respite
Where reasoning lives
If a thought is funny
And heart wants to laugh
Tell brain to respond
